Adultery vs. Misinforming the Public
Even though misinforming the public is wrong, its not as personal as adultery. In my opinion,
people have trouble fully absorbing the misfortunes of others when they are not tied to them one
way or another. Adultery can happen to your family, friend or neighbor and you can see the
effects it has on people. Some people need to see or touch something for it to be real.
Unless you live in famine, war, surrounded by death from aids, poverty and so on, its difficult
to feel it or be involved. Its thousands of miles away so its some one else's problem. Adultery is
another story, especially if there is a big age difference. No one wants to see an older man with a
teenager. At least pick some one your own age so you are not saying something stupid like it
happened because of mid-life crisis. We hear about it at work, school
functions, and neighborhood get together. This we can feel because this can happen to me,
family, or friends. We may know one of the parties involved. We see first hand the pain of
families being separated. I think we all know at least one person that adultery has occurred.
The scene when the newscaster breaks the story of the president inappropriately touching the
firefly that was on tour of the White House was short but to the point. Many people probably
didn't know what a firefly was. Before the public had time to fully absorb what was said,
Mr.Fix-it was creating a new story of war to take our mind off the adultery. One of the best
examples of adultery is President Clinton. He will always be known as the president who cheated
on his wife in the White House with an intern. He didn't have a Mr. Fix-it.
I feel that the public hears so much bull out of the mouths of politicians that they feel like they
are always misinformed. They start to feel numb toward the misfortunes of people they don't
know. They don't know what is real from one day to the next. Sometimes, we just want the soap
opera and the drama that goes with it. So give us the juicy adultery story so we can say," give
some one a little power and its goes to their head making them think they are untouchable." We
will show them that power is not meant for you to abuse. Adultery has only one or two people to
blame not a whole cabinet.
